Learning to Love the True You

2 min read

Hey Darlings,

Let’s get honest about a subject we don’t talk about enough. The uncomfortable gap between the version of yourself you thought you’d be by now, and the real human being sitting in your seat today.

Growing up, most of us built a mental blueprint for our future. We imagined how we’d dress, how composed we’d be, what our career would look like, or how effortlessly we'd have our life together in our 20s and definitely by our 30’s.

Then real life happens. You realize you have quirks you didn't expect, wounds you have to heal, boundaries you need to set, and a personality that might not fit into the neat little box you created years ago.

So many of us spend years fighting who we actually are just because it doesn't match the fantasy script.

When I was writing my book Irehide, this exact struggle was at the heart of the narrative.

The characters in Irehide don't get the luxury of living in a flawless, linear dream world. They have to face the hard truths about their realities, their survival instincts, and the messy, complex parts of their identities. They also have to learn to accept the love that’s right infront of them instead of searching for a fantasy. They have to learn that true strength isn't about pretending you are perfect, it’s about embracing the contrast of who you are. The light, the shadow, the strength, and the vulnerability.

Writing Irehide taught me that self reclamation only happens when you stop apologizing for the real story you are living.

3 Steps to Accept the Version of You That Showed Up

1. Grieve the Fantasy: It is okay to mourn the imagined timeline or version of yourself that didn't happen. Let it go so you can actually show up for the real person in the mirror.

2. Audit Your Authentic Traits: What are the things about yourself you’ve been trying to edit out just to fit in or look "polished"? Your intensity, your quietness, your unconventional passions, those aren't flaws, they are your blueprint.

3. Own Your Narrative: You are the author of your life. Just like a good book, the plot twists and character flaws are what make the story legendary.

You don't have to be the fantasy version to be worthy of love, success, and peace right now.

Let’s talk in the comments, Darling:

What is one thing about yourself that you used to fight or hide, but are finally starting to accept and own? Drop it below, I’d love to hear your story.
